Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) was launched by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on April 1, 2016. Under this scheme, subsidies will be provided for the construction of permanent houses for economically weaker sections of India who do not own a permanent house. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Urban) – Urban schemes primarily target the housing needs of urban poor. Apart from this, the scheme also addresses the housing needs of slum residents living in narrow pockets of slums where infrastructure, sanitation and drinking water are poor.
